American Akita

7 year old female

Location: Bray Park, Qld

If you Google the American Akita, you find a breed description that says “The Akita is a large and powerful dog breed with a noble and intimidating presence…Consequently, they are fearless and loyal guardians of their families. Yet they are also affectionate, respectful, and amusing dogs when properly trained and socialized…” I gotta admit, that does sound a bit like me. Let me elaborate.

On the outside I look like a big tough dog. And my bark at first makes strangers think just that. Get to know me though and you’ll soon see I am nothing but a big softie canine teddy bear. I have grown up around children of all ages and I love them. Sure, they get annoying sometimes but I will merely pick myself up and move to my own space. So as long as kids understand that body language and don’t pester me when I want a break, we will be just fine.

I know a few tricks and some good treats will help me remember some of them. A good toy for me to carry around is a favourite too. I might look big and tough but I do have some things that scare me, thunderstorms being one of them. I am housetrained and love to spend a lot of time inside, so I would like a family with people home more often than not and one where I have access to inside, especially if the big bad thunder comes.

One thing I don’t do, is other pets. I don’t do other dogs, at all! So, no dog parks or any of those places for me. I get a bit excitable out on walks when other dogs are around, so I will need a person with large, strong dog experience. I also have paws that are talented excavators so fences in my new home will need to be digproof. As long as they are 5ft and over then I shouldn’t bother trying to go over. A solid fence would be best so I don’t get too distracted by other dogs walking past (eg. Solid wood or colourbond).

I really am just one big people-loving snuggle bug that has a whole lot of affection to give the right family. I can promise that if you can give me everything that I have asked for above, then you will get back everything ten-fold. If you would like to talk to the SHAMROQ girls more about welcoming me into your home, please kick off the process by applying below
